2018 Class Schedule: Learn floral design

Jennifer Morris

My team and I really enjoyed our 2016 and 2017 classes and the people that we have met at each of these events. As we developed this year’s schedule, we knew we wanted to keep a similar format for the classes while we explore different styles, floral varieties and containers.

In 2018, we look at some of the different International design styles that have a big influence on our industry in the United States. We lead the year exploring the art form Ikebana, developed many, many centuries ago by the Japanese. Then, this Spring, we will create a purely French design, and in the Fall, the more formal garden style of the British. (If you are wathcing the Netflix series, The Crown, you may be catching some of these beautiful florals in the background.) All of these classes are suitable for both beginners and intermediate enthusiasts.

Many of our regular students are getting quite skillful. That’s why we are pleased to announce an advanced full-day workshop called “Designer in a Day.” The first of these classes will be held in March. Participants will learn floral design start to finish, from choosing florals and greenery, processing stems and creating designs using a selection of vases and containers for every day use, events and weddings. If you are interested in this day-long event, please contact heather@jmorrisflowers.com.

We’ll complete the year with our traditional Thanksgiving Centerpiece class on the Tuesday before the holiday and our wreath making class in December. This year, we will design our wreaths on grapevine, a style that can be used all year long as you celebrate each season.
