Q; How did you get started in the floral industry?
A:
I was exposed to horticulture at a very young age while growing up on 10 acres and gardening with my parents. I took horticulture for four years in high school where I was able to gain more experience with flowers and designing. I  then went on to major in horticulture at Virginia Tech where I took floral design and became a teaching assistant for the class.

Q: What has kept you attracted to the floral business?
A:
I enjoy it and learn so much every day. It’s always different, always changing. It’s exciting to be a part of.

Q:  Do you have any formal training other than what you’ve received at the studio
A:
High school, college and a previous job at a flower shop in Blacksburg, VA.

Q: Do you prefer everyday arrangements, weddings, or both?
A:
I love working on weddings and events and making someone’s whole look come together for their big day.

Q: To date, what has been the most memorable experience as a floral designer?
A:
Since working at J Morris Flowers, my most memorable event was the Habitat for Humanity Masquerade Ball. It was a great experience – getting to be there through the planning and execution process, getting to work and learn from Jennifer, while creating pieces I’ve never had experience with before. An added bonus was attended the event and seeing the final product, first hand.

Q: Where do you look for inspiration?
A:
I look to Jennifer — she has accomplished so much and is an amazing designer. I also look online at various sites with amazing work — they really provide great ideas for what can be done with flowers!

Q:  What are your future goals?
A:
To be a great designer with a variety of experiences. I want to be able to look at something and say, “I can do that!”.

Q: What is your favorite flower and why?
A:
I love the look and feel that you get from a big gathering of greens and wildflowers. It looks so natural and beautiful.  I also am pretty smitten with peonies. They are just so wonderful and beautiful and smell amazing! The smell reminds me of my childhood — they were always growing around me and I would always enjoy the smell!
